Another day of no missions had come, and Genma had found himself as bored as the previous three days before that. He'd ended up walking around again, wondering if maybe it was time to plan a small trip with Raidou to finally stretch his legs. However, walking to Raidou's didn't happen, and Genma found himself outside the hospital, again. His senbon bobbed up and down as he once again considered how appropriate it was to go disturb Shizune at work: after all, she didn't interrupt him when he was halfway through his own. He didn't have long to contemplate over it, eyes noticing a flash of pink again--praying that they wouldn't make eye-contact, but never being so lucky. He threw a friendly smile her way, trying to work out if standing around any longer was going to make him look like a stalker. Was he technically a stalker at this point? How many times had Sakura seen him outside and he simply hadn't noticed her? Groaning internally at the thought of being labeled as some kind of strange hospital stalking pervert, Genma decided it was probably worth the risk to actually go inside today. Maybe he just liked visiting sick people, was Sakura the police of who could loiter around public buildings? Well she was basically heading the hospital, he reminded himself, looking back at her to realize she'd barely paid him any attention in the first place.
Like most ninja, Genma didn't particularly like being inside the hospital. Landing inside only ever meant bad news, sometimes resulting in the loss of friends and comrades through his own idiocy. He didn't like the smell of the place, and the tiles only made annoying noises under his steps. That said, he'd been in there enough times to navigate himself around, peering curiously at the nurses to try and spot any with dark-hair, possible a pig too. Did Tonton just sit and watch while Shizune healed people? He wondered, eyes averting away from the actual patients. It took a couple more minutes of searching to finally find her, the edge of his lips twitching into a small smile at the sight of her in the hospital uniform. He'd always understood why Tsunade had kept her nearby, but Shizune's had obvious talent and it was nice to see her putting it to better use than paperwork. "Ah, look at our diligent worker; I came in to hand some forms over and couldn't help but see if my favorite pig protector was around," he lied, figuring it was only a casual loss if she was busy.

It had been another slow morning at the hospital and the afternoon proved to be no different. If you asked her how many times she had washed her hands just to be doing something, she wouldn't be able to tell you. Around thirty would be a decent estimate. After an unsavory amount of time a chunin was checked in with a broken rib and possibly internal bleeding. This was one of those situations when doctor-patient confidentiality went to proper use; this poor shinobi, so-and-so, was assigned an escort mission that was nothing more than appeasing a man with particularly severe anxiety. One thing led to another and so-and-so was left with a cane injury, produced by none other than the escort himself. Some of the nurses snickered after hearing the unfortunate series of events, but Shizune held back any signs of humor. A broken rib is a broken rib, no matter how it may have come about. She tied her hair back in a short ponytail and immediately went to work.
A few minutes had passed. Shizune focused her chakra on the lower left side of the chunin's chest, sighing in relief. There were no signs of internal bleeding from punctured organs. This kid is unbelievably lucky. She smiled as she finished him up. Healing wasn't as easy as a snap of the fingers, but it did wonders. His rib wasn't entirely healed, only time and his own body could do that. She wiped the sweat from her brow, glad that this was most likely the worst they'd get for the day. As she picked Tonton up for a congratulatory cuddle session, she noticed a familiar figure at the door. Her eyes brightened. "Hey Gen!" It was a pleasant surprise to have a healthy visitor, unless it was about paperwork. It's as though the job would permanently haunt her, but it was Genma and what else did she have to get done? "Uhm, sure, I'll take the forms if you can hold Tonton for a moment." She held the clothed pig out, waiting for the trade she'd rather not have.

Genma couldn't help but smile wider as Shizune greeted him, instantly caught up in her enthusiasm. He had enough greetings with 'Shiranui' all day, and it was nice to finally get one that was his first name--and a nickname, at that. It was all nice and well until Shizune asked for the paperwork, and Genma suddenly realized that he hadn't planned for her to ask for it. He took a careful chew of his senbon, eyes blankly staring at the pig she'd suddenly put in front of his face--he'd long given up on asking the woman why herself and Tsunade insisted on dressing it up. "Oh, the paperwork," he nodded, mind still reeling for an excuse to the lie he'd already fucked up within three seconds of the conversation. "I just had to pass it onto Sakura, you're free for now." He was sure that she wouldn't have enough interest to ask Sakura about it in the first place, and it was probably best kept that way. He kept accidentally waiting outside the hospital as she left it, like he was stalking the poor girl: they didn't need his false paperwork claims to get added into the mix too.
Now that he'd established there wasn't a pressing need for her, it became quickly obvious to Genma that he needed to clarify that he was very much free and available, if she was. "But that means that I'm finished with my errands for today, I was thinking of getting lunch if you weren't too busy? That said, Sakura was telling me how hectic things around here are." That wasn't a complete lie either, he had spoken to Sakura about the hospital and how busy it was--he just neglected to mention that it had been a couple of days ago, not when he was fake-handing in the fake paperwork.

Shizune returned the pig back to her chest, more than happy to get out of paperwork that she was beginning to suspect didn't actually exist in the first place. "That's fine, Sakura's more than capable of dealing with it." If these papers happened to be real, she didn't second guess the pink-haired medic's ability to do them. The job was tedious, not challenging. It might as well be a right of passage, especially when it helps superiors go out to lunch with friends. She set Tonton down gently before focusing back on Genma, crossing her arms while approaching the doorframe.
There was no way she could turn him down, nor did she want to. "I'd love to--wait, she said things've been hectic?" She looked over at the other medics now chatting and laughing amongst each other, bewildered that Sakura considered this to be busy. Was it a poor attempt on her part to prevent this outing with Genma? Sabotage was unlikely, but Shizune felt a nagging jealousy from the falsehood regardless of her colleague's true intentions. She sighed, not wanting to come off as childish. "Well, busy or not, I can squeeze lunch into my schedule." By "lunch" she meant him, but the small technicality would have to do for the time being. Not wanting to waste any time, she stripped off the white overcoat and undid her ponytail, already waving good-bye to the others in the room. She ran her fingers through her hair in a final attempt to look presentable before walking back to the tokubetsu.
"Where to?" She smiled.

For a ninja who was supposed to be adept at lying and smoothing situations over, Genma was doing atrociously. It was even more embarrassing that he was stumbling over information that should have been second nature in his own home--it only took one look around the hospital to notice that it wasn't as hectic as it had been when he'd caught Sakura during the rain. He could only offer a shrug in return, hoping his general ignorance about hospitals would be enough to let the conversation drop; it wasn't as if he could correct Shizune that the conversation with Sakura had happened days before, not without Shizune then starting to wonder where the paperwork had ended up, or taking it a step further and beginning to suspect Genma of losing what little sanity he was already grasping to keep hold of.
"I suppose that depends on how much time you have, and how hungry you are. Shushuya always seems to be accommodating, but I'm not going to say no to dango," he offered, senbon once again bobbing in thought. He didn't particularly have a sweet tooth, but savoury dango was enough to satisfy his taste--not to mention that it was the only place his childhood friends had ever managed to summon themselves to eat at. Even if he had hated it, he would have been forced to start enjoying it if he ever wanted to see his friends in public. "I would have to say no to ramen though, I don't think running into the Hokage would be a great idea for me at the moment," he sighed, knowing that word of his escapades would eventually reach Shizune, regardless of whether he tried to cover them up now.

Genma's shrug said it all: he was clueless. She raised an eyebrow, but kept her mouth shut; it would be rude for her to audibly laugh at his crumbling cool guy facade. It would have to do. She wasn't in the mood to dwell on something as minor as word-of-mouth information. There was no use loitering in the hospital any further just to force out what would surely be a half-assed answer. She took the initiative, pushing him lightly on the back with one hand while starting down the corridor.
Her ears perked up at the mention of food. "Dango sounds great!" It came out more as a gasp than an exclamation, the medic-nin's last meal having been at an ungodly hour that morning. There would be no waiting for the sweets, which was what she needed. Situations at the hospital could change at the flip of a coin and the dango shop could accommodate both her hunger and her duties. Quick and casual also suited the pair better, at least that's what Shizune wanted to believe. She refused to reenact the practice date she had with Kakashi, whether or not the purpose of the date was standing right beside her. This would be different--just a simple outing with a special friend during an extended lunch break, nothing crazy, nothing serious. She kept close to Genma, matching his relaxed stride.
Crossing Ichiraku off the list came with no regrets. Her slurping abilities were next to none and she'd prefer to avoid spending their evening together treating him for a broth burn to the eye. "I'm not in the mood for it anyway," she put a hand to her stomach. "And I'm sure he's busy with... important Hokage things to be out and about."
